Before, during, and after

Well I decided to paint the  shelf instead of staining it because, I wanted a constant color throughout the shelf. I started by filling all the nail and screw holes and adding silicone to the cracks with paintable silicone. then I painted a base coat of Kilz, my absolute favorite base coat brand of paint.  This favoritism began as an apartment manager, after seeing it's effect of grungy apartment walls turning in to a cameo beauty. Some paints already have base coats build in, do not trust their shortcuts you still will have to do two to three coats of paint. Well even though my husband hates projects and painting, I was pleasantly surprised to find, after a blissful nap, that my shelf had a color on it. My husband had done a wonderful job but. . . the color wasn't dark enough so off the home depot I went for another quart of paint. Next time I will by the trial size for $3.99. Oh well as the night went on the shelf was finished and having an unsuccessful thrift store shopping trip I spruced  the shelf up with a few décor items from around the house. Subtle changes but a crisp finish
